Pick and Choose Moodie Style: Salads, Mains, Sides, Desserts…..

I love Christmas; it has to be my most favourite time of the year. I would dust off my Christmas carol cds in September if I could but Mia insists we wait until after her birthday in November. Fair enough I guess, but I don’t mind telling you that I’m singing Jingle Bells and Dreaming of a White Christmas (ironic, I know) in my head the whole time I’m singing Happy Birthday.

From as far back as I can remember, we’ve had a traditional Christmas; Dad insisted upon it. Even on those 35°c days we had the ovens hot and roasty with chickens, hams, pork, potatoes and honeyed pumpkin. Last year we had Christmas with my brother. He’s a relaxed kinda guy with a relaxed attitude about everything, including Christmas.

And so I relinquished my control of the kitchen space and all things Christmas and just let it all go; the lists, the table, seating plans, the heart palpitations. And you know what? It was well, relaxing. We made salads and crispy potatoes. We had ham and turkey sliced on platters. We had gorgeous Christmas pud and trifle. But it was stress-free. We focussed on more important things. Like pressies!

So this year, I’m bringing you several recipes that you can put together to make a feast of festive proportions, or you can just pick a few and keep it low key. Over the next 12 days, I’m bringing you salads, potato dishes, mains and desserts. It’s Pick and Choose at The Moodie Foodie this year, so sit back, relax and let it all unfold.
