Smoothies – quick, easy, gorgeous, creamy

Confession No. 7: I eat when I’m stressed

As I was standing in front of the fridge gazing with intent, a war was going on in my head that went something like this:
What can I eat?
But you’re not hungry
Yes I am
No you’re not
Yes I am
No you’re not
YES I AM!

Don’t shout at me, I don’t like it when you shout at me. Oh and by the way, no you’re not….
Silence ensues, usually followed by cheese. And some crackers to go with the cheese. Not to mention the pickles. Mmmmm, I love pickles with cheese and crackers…..

I am a self-confessed emotional eater. I eat when I’m happy, sad, cranky, glad (who says glad? It rhymed – sorry….). Go figure, I love food. But when I’m stressed, I eat all the wrong things*

Not being a food nazi, I’m not going to bang on about what you should and shouldn’t eat in those times of fridge-gazing** but if you’re anything like me, you love a good tip. Smoothies! Yes, I know that smoothies aren’t new and I certainly can’t call myself the Earl of Smoothie*** because I didn’t invent them but they are fantastic for stressed people. A piece of fruit isn’t going to cut it when I’m stressed because well, it’s just not. At these times, I’m like a petulant child – I need something more, I want something more, I deserve something more!

So, I started playing around with smoothies. I went out and got myself a blender, some fruit, milk and a little yogurt and now I’m hooked! There’s something great about smoothies – quick, thick, fruity, creamy and a little decadent. Just perfect for my stressed state and my girls love them****.

*Something sweet, something savory, sweet, savory, sweet, savory….
**Way too hypocritical and it’s not my style
***Which would be weird. But I do love a good sandwich so feel warm feelings towards the Earl of Sandwich….
****Added bonus that I get to be Mummy of the Week (for a day at least…)

Do you eat when you’re stressed? Come on and share, it can’t be worse than my sweet/savory/sweet fests!
