In the mood for salt and pepper kale chips

Low fat, low calorie, healthy snack
Kale chips, they’ve been around for a while but I haven’t covered them on Moodie before so I thought I’d share them.

Kale chips.  They look weird, I know and you may have to do some fast talking to sell them in as an alternative to potato chips (even to yourself), but once these little gems have been tasted the sceptics will be silenced. Elly eats them by the bucket load and I gotta admit that I do love a big bowl when I feel the need to snack in front of the telly. Mmmmm, snacking in front of the telly – love doing that…..

Now I’m not going to tell you that they taste like potato chips. They don’t! The first time I came across a recipe for kale chips, they were sold to me as the best thing since deep fried thin slices of potato. They aren’t. And they don’t taste like it either.

But they are really, really good; earthy, crunchy, tasty and you can make them with just about any flavouring you can imagine – salt and vinegar, parmesan and garlic, sesame and garlic, taco flavoured……

Kale is also one of those superfoods that you really need to know about. Packed with vitamins c, a and k, iron and fibre, kale is also low in fat and calories. All fantastic reasons to eat more kale. If you want to really get into all the amazing health benefits of kale, visit here, but if you’re already sold and just want to know how to eat it, make these chips or this salad, shred it finely and replace some lettuce in your next salad, steam it, stir-fry it with some garlic and sesame oil or use it anywhere you would use spinach.

Have you tasted kale chips yet? How do you think they’ll be received at your house? And do you love to snack in front of the telly?
