Day 10 – Moodie 12 Days of Christmas

Following on from yesterday’s greedy individual, exclusive, mine-mine-mine theme we’re serving Eton Mess today for Christmas. Yes, you get your very own. You could make it in a large collective bowl, but why would you? You would only have to fight other people for it and who needs that on Christmas Day?

Oooooh, how I love a good berrylicious Eton Mess but if you look at a traditional recipe you’ll see it’s made with cream, cream and a little more cream. I make mine with good quality fat reduced yogurt which saves a lot on fat and calories. Be sure to look at the sugar content of reduced fat yogurts; some are packed with sugar to make them taste good which kinda defeats the purpose of going light.

If you can’t find a tasty low fat, low sugar yogurt, go for a thick full fat vanilla or strawberry version. It’s only got a little more fat than it’s low fat sisters but MUCH less than cream!

  • It’s easy peasy, assembled in a couple of minutes – literally. You can make the puree days before you need it and have it waiting in the fridge (if you don’t eat it over your brekkie that is).
  • It looks as Christmasy as a Christmas thing from the land Christmas – very important at Christmas don’t you think?
  • It tastes like a little bit of heaven – do you need any other reason?

Now I hope you’re sitting down because tomorrow it’s Black Forest Trifle. It just wouldn’t be Christmas without trifle……
