10 foods that make you happy

There’s no denying that what we eat affects how we feel but did you know that certain foods can make us happy? Cool I know, and it all comes down to one weird little word – tryptophan ((trip-toe-fan: just in case you wanted to say it out loud). Tryptophan is an essential amino acid that’s converted into serotonin. Serotonin is well known as the body’s happy hormone – it makes us feel good.

Unfortunately our bodies aren’t capable of making tryptophan and so we need to rely on what we eat to get our happiness fix. With winter making itself front and centre, we could all do with a little happy mood food, right?

Fill up on these tryptophan-bursting foods to stave off those winter blues:

Low in fat, turkey is a fantastic protein to include in your diet. Make a stir-fry with turkey meat and lots of bright coloured vegetables. It’ll make you happy just looking at it. Most recipes that you would use chicken or pork would be great for turkey.
